What do you need to do the task?

Mop

Broom and dustpan

"Sharps" container (cardboard box)

Step-By-Step

1. Obtain a mop, broom, and dustpan from the Cleaning Closet that's in the hallway between the Kitchen and Dinnerware Closet.

2. Find the spill and ensure guests have cleared the are.

2. Mop up liquid with a dry mop head (if applicable).

3. Once dry mop head has absorbed the liquid, scan a large area surrounding the spill.

4. Sweep broken glass into a pile and onto a the dustpan.

5. Scan the surrounding area a second time to ensure all glass has been swept up.

6. Bring dustpan to the kitchen and dump the broken glass into the "sharps" container at the end of the dishwasher counter by the kitchen door that leads to the side porch.

7. Shake out mop head in the "sharps" container to remove excess pieces of glass.

8. Remove mop head from the handle by loosening the yellow screw at the base of the mop handle and pulling the mop head out of its clamp.

9. Discard the mop head in the gray canvas tote under the dishwasher counter, next to the bus tubs.

10. Find a clean mop head on the shelf in the Cleaning Closet.

11. Pull the clean mop head to sit evenly on the yellow clamp.

12. Tighten the yellow screw to tighten the clamp around the mop head.

13. Replace the clean mop, broom and dustpan in the Cleaning Closet.

What does “done right” look like?

All glass shards are swept.

Broken glass is discarded into the designated "sharps" container.

Mop head is discarded and a new one is reattached.

Broom and dustpan are returned to Cleaning Closet.

Common problems or mistakes?

Do not pick up glass with you hands.

Do not allow guests to "help" clean up.

Do not throw glass shards in a normal garbage can.
